Dixie Highway Corridor Improvements

Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach recently received a major corridor upgrade focused on safety, comfort, and long-term durability. The improvements visible in the photos reflect a true Complete Streets approach: the roadway was rebuilt and restriped to better organize traffic movements, define turn lanes, and improve overall operations. Along the corridor, curb lines and edges were reconstructed to clean up transitions at driveways and side streets and to create a more predictable street profile for everyone using the corridor, day and night.

On the pedestrian side, the project added and rebuilt continuous sidewalks with new curb and gutter, creating a safer and more accessible walking route that feels separated from moving traffic. The corridor also includes upgraded street lighting to improve nighttime visibility and comfort, especially near intersections and major access points. These changes support people walking, taking transit, or connecting between neighborhoods and businesses, while also reducing the “highway feel” that can make Dixie uncomfortable outside of a car.
Just as important, the corridor was refreshed with landscaped medians and enhanced streetscape planting that provide both function and character. The planted center median helps manage turning movements and reduces conflict points, while the added landscaping and street trees soften the corridor, improve shade and aesthetics, and reinforce a slower, more attentive driving environment. Altogether, the Dixie Highway corridor improvements are the kind of practical, buildable Complete Streets investment that improves safety, supports local business access, and gives the street a more neighborhood-friendly identity without compromising mobility.
